Lyle Ashton Harris (b. 1965) explores stereotypes of race, gender, sexuality and the American family
in his striking Polaroids and other photographic works. Harris is often his own model, dressing as
fictional or historical icons to portray personal and societal conflicts. Harris’ work has been presented
in solo and group exhibitions here and abroad including the 2007 Venice Biennale; Photography and
the Self
, the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; the Bienal de Arte Contemporaneo de Sevilla,
Spain; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and iCI’s Shoot the Family. Represented by CRG Gallery.
